Meaning

Any disease, damage, or dysfunction affecting the optic nerve, which is responsible for transmitting visual information from the eye to the brain. This condition often results in a loss of visual acuity, reduced color vision, and visual field defects, and it can be caused by various factors including ischemia, compression, inflammation, or drug toxicity.
