OPG

Meaning

Osteoprotegerin (OPG) is a secreted glycoprotein that functions as a decoy receptor for Receptor Activator of Nuclear factor Kappa-B Ligand (RANKL). It plays a pivotal role in regulating bone density by inhibiting osteoclast formation, function, and survival. Its primary action is to prevent RANKL from binding to its receptor, RANK, on osteoclast precursor cells.
