Oncologic Risk

Meaning

Oncologic risk refers to the quantified probability of developing a malignant neoplasm, or cancer, over a specified period, based on the presence of specific genetic, environmental, or lifestyle factors. In the context of hormonal health, this risk is particularly pertinent when considering the role of endogenous and exogenous hormones, such as estrogen and testosterone, which can act as mitogenic factors in certain tissues. Clinicians must carefully assess and manage individual oncologic risk when prescribing hormone replacement therapies, especially concerning breast, prostate, and endometrial tissues.
