Omega-6 Fatty Acids

Meaning

Omega-6 fatty acids are a class of polyunsaturated fatty acids characterized by a double bond at the sixth carbon atom from the methyl end. These are essential fatty acids, signifying that the human body cannot synthesize them endogenously and must acquire them through dietary intake. Linoleic acid (LA) represents the primary dietary omega-6 fatty acid, serving as a crucial precursor for the synthesis of other omega-6 derivatives, notably arachidonic acid (AA).
