Oligogenic Traits

Meaning

Oligogenic traits are phenotypic characteristics or conditions whose expression is influenced by the interaction of a small, defined number of genes, typically more than one but fewer than the numerous genes involved in complex polygenic traits. This mode of inheritance represents an intermediate spectrum between single-gene Mendelian disorders and highly multifactorial conditions, where each contributing gene has a discernible, though not exclusive, effect on the final outcome.
