Oestrogen Receptor Alpha

Meaning

Oestrogen Receptor Alpha (ERalpha or ESR1) is a key intracellular protein that functions as a ligand-activated transcription factor, mediating the majority of the classical genomic actions of the sex hormone estradiol (oestrogen). ERalpha is widely expressed in reproductive tissues, bone, and the central nervous system, where it plays a critical role in cellular proliferation, differentiation, and the regulation of metabolic and cardiovascular health. It is a major target for endocrine therapies.
