Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Meaning

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a common sleep disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of upper airway collapse during sleep, leading to intermittent hypoxia and subsequent arousal. Clinically, OSA is strongly associated with endocrine dysregulation, frequently causing or exacerbating insulin resistance and disrupting the normal nocturnal pulsatility of growth hormone and cortisol. This condition represents a significant physiological stressor.
