Obesogens

Meaning

Obesogens are a distinct class of exogenous chemical compounds, typically environmental pollutants or endocrine-disrupting chemicals, that interfere with the normal hormonal regulation of body weight and metabolism. Exposure to these agents can actively promote adipogenesis, the formation of fat cells, or disrupt critical satiety and energy expenditure signals, thereby predisposing an individual to weight gain and obesity. They represent a significant, non-caloric factor in the etiology of metabolic dysfunction.
