Obesity

Meaning

Obesity is a complex, chronic metabolic disease characterized by an excessive accumulation of body fat that presents a significant risk to health, often quantified clinically by a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or higher. It is a state of chronic low-grade inflammation and profound endocrine dysfunction, affecting the regulation of appetite, energy expenditure, and glucose homeostasis. This condition is a major driver of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and certain hormone-sensitive cancers.
