Obesity and Heart Failure

Meaning

Obesity and Heart Failure refers to the significant and causal pathophysiological relationship where excess adipose tissue acts as an independent risk factor for the development and progression of heart failure, particularly the HFpEF phenotype. This association is driven by a complex interplay of mechanical, hemodynamic, and, most importantly, neurohormonal factors. The chronic inflammatory and metabolic environment created by obesity imposes a detrimental workload on the myocardium. Clinically, addressing obesity is now recognized as a fundamental strategy for managing and preventing heart failure.
