NYHA Class

Meaning

NYHA Class, formally known as the New York Heart Association Functional Classification, is a widely adopted, subjective clinical system used to categorize the severity of heart failure based on the degree of limitation a patient experiences during physical activity. This classification places patients into one of four distinct categories, ranging from Class I (no limitation) to Class IV (inability to carry on any physical activity without discomfort). It provides a standardized, easily understood assessment of functional capacity, which is a powerful prognostic indicator in cardiovascular medicine.
