Nutrient Timing Hormones

Meaning

Nutrient timing hormones are the specific endocrine mediators, such as insulin, glucagon, ghrelin, and leptin, that are acutely released in response to the ingestion of macronutrients and subsequently regulate nutrient partitioning, satiety, and metabolic flux. The strategic control of meal composition and timing is used to deliberately manipulate the release profile of these hormones to achieve specific physiological goals, such as maximizing anabolism or enhancing fat oxidation.
