Norepinephrine Suppression

Meaning

Norepinephrine Suppression refers to the pharmacological or physiological action of reducing the release or activity of norepinephrine, a potent catecholamine and neurotransmitter central to the sympathetic nervous system’s fight-or-flight response. While necessary for acute stress, chronic elevation or inappropriate nocturnal activity of norepinephrine can lead to detrimental effects, including increased heart rate, elevated blood pressure, and profound sleep disruption. Clinical suppression is sometimes targeted to manage conditions like anxiety, hypertension, or to specifically improve the quality of restorative sleep.
