Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis

Meaning

Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis, commonly abbreviated as NASH, represents a severe form of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, characterized by the accumulation of fat in the liver accompanied by inflammation and hepatocyte injury. This condition is distinct from alcohol-induced liver damage and can progress to advanced fibrosis, cirrhosis, and ultimately liver failure. It signifies a significant pathological change within the hepatic parenchyma, indicating active liver cell damage beyond mere fat deposition.
