Non-Vertebral Fractures

Meaning

Non-vertebral fractures refer to bone breaks that occur in any part of the skeleton except the vertebrae of the spine. Clinically significant examples include fractures of the hip, wrist, forearm, humerus, and pelvis, which are often the result of low-trauma falls in individuals with underlying osteoporosis. These fractures represent a major cause of morbidity, disability, and mortality in aging populations, particularly postmenopausal women experiencing significant hormonal bone loss.
