Non-Steroidal AI

Meaning

Non-Steroidal AI refers to a class of pharmaceutical agents known as Non-Steroidal Aromatase Inhibitors, which are synthetic compounds designed to reduce the production of estrogen by reversibly binding to and inhibiting the aromatase enzyme. Unlike steroidal inhibitors, these molecules do not possess a steroid nucleus in their chemical structure and typically block the enzyme by competing with its natural substrate, androgens, at the active site. They are commonly used in hormonal health to manage excessive estrogen levels, particularly in men undergoing testosterone replacement therapy or in certain hormone-sensitive conditions.
