Non-Photic Synchronization

Meaning

Non-Photic Synchronization refers to the process of aligning the body’s internal circadian clock system using external time cues other than light, the primary photic synchronizer. These non-photic zeitgebers include factors such as timed exercise, consistent meal timing, social interactions, and pharmacological agents like melatonin. This method is clinically relevant for individuals whose light-dark cycle is disrupted, such as shift workers, or as a complementary strategy to reinforce the master clock’s rhythm.
