Non-Osmotic Stimuli

Meaning

Physiological triggers that induce the release of the antidiuretic hormone (ADH), also known as vasopressin, independent of changes in plasma osmolality (the concentration of solutes in the blood). These stimuli primarily include hypovolemia, which is a decrease in blood volume, and hypotension, a drop in blood pressure. They represent a crucial, secondary control mechanism for fluid balance beyond the direct detection of blood concentration.
