Non-Osmotic Stimuli

Meaning

Non-osmotic stimuli are physiological factors that prompt antidiuretic hormone, or vasopressin, release from the posterior pituitary gland without directly altering plasma osmolality. These influences operate independently of hypothalamic osmoreceptors, which primarily regulate ADH secretion based on solute concentration changes. Their impact on ADH release is crucial for maintaining fluid balance, especially during volume depletion or physiological stress.
