Non-Genomic Action

Meaning

Non-genomic action refers to the rapid cellular responses initiated by hormones that do not involve direct interaction with nuclear DNA or modulation of gene transcription. These effects occur swiftly, typically within seconds to minutes, distinguishing them from the slower, genomic actions that regulate gene expression over hours or days. Hormones, including steroids and thyroid hormones, traditionally known for their nuclear receptor-mediated effects, also exert significant influence through these immediate, non-transcriptional pathways.
