Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

Meaning

Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) is a pathological condition defined by the excessive accumulation of triglycerides within hepatocytes, occurring in the absence of significant alcohol consumption. This condition is strongly associated with components of the metabolic syndrome, including insulin resistance and dyslipidemia. It exists on a spectrum ranging from simple steatosis to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Careful monitoring of liver enzymes is clinically indicated.
