NOD2 Signaling

Meaning

NOD2 Signaling refers to the complex intracellular communication cascade initiated by the Nucleotide-binding Oligomerization Domain-containing protein 2, an essential pattern recognition receptor. This receptor primarily detects specific bacterial peptidoglycan components, notably muramyl dipeptide, derived from the cell walls of both commensal and pathogenic bacteria. Upon ligand binding, NOD2 activation triggers a sequence of molecular events, culminating in a targeted immune response crucial for maintaining host defense and immune homeostasis.
