Nocturnal Sweating

Meaning

The clinical symptom of excessive perspiration occurring specifically during sleep, often severe enough to drench clothing or bedding, which necessitates a change of linens. While commonly associated with hormonal fluctuations, particularly the sharp decline in estrogen during perimenopause and menopause, it can also be a sign of various underlying systemic conditions. In hormonal health, it is classified as a severe form of vasomotor symptom, distinct from simple overheating.
