Nocturnal Hormone Pulses

Meaning

The distinct, rapid, and often high-amplitude secretory bursts of various endocrine hormones that occur predominantly during the sleep period, following a specific, genetically programmed circadian and ultradian rhythm. These pulses are critical for driving anabolic processes, regulating metabolism, and facilitating neurocognitive repair and consolidation. The most clinically significant examples include the large surges of Growth Hormone and the regulated, cyclical secretion of prolactin and melatonin.
