Nitric Oxide Synthesis

Meaning

Nitric Oxide synthesis is the crucial biochemical process by which the diatomic free radical Nitric Oxide (NO) is generated within the body, primarily by a family of enzymes known as Nitric Oxide Synthases (NOS). This highly reactive molecule acts as a critical signaling messenger, playing a central role in numerous physiological functions, most notably as a potent endogenous vasodilator that regulates blood flow and pressure. Optimal synthesis is a hallmark of good endothelial health and cardiovascular function.
