Nitrate-Nitrite-NO Pathway

Meaning

The Nitrate-Nitrite-NO Pathway represents an alternative, oxygen-independent route for the biological generation of nitric oxide, distinct from the classical L-arginine nitric oxide synthase pathway. This non-enzymatic cascade involves the sequential reduction of nitrate to nitrite, followed by the further reduction of nitrite to nitric oxide, primarily occurring under physiological conditions of hypoxia or acidosis.
