Nevi Darkening

Meaning

Nevi darkening is the clinical observation of increased pigmentation, or hyperpigmentation, within a nevus, which is a common mole or benign melanocytic lesion on the skin. This change in color is primarily a dermatological manifestation often associated with hormonal fluctuations, notably those occurring during pregnancy or with the use of exogenous sex hormones like estrogen-containing contraceptives. While usually a benign physiological response, any significant or rapid darkening warrants clinical evaluation to rule out malignant transformation, highlighting the intersection of endocrinology and cutaneous oncology.
