Neutralizing Antibody (NAb)

Meaning

A specific type of antibody produced by the immune system that is capable of binding to and inactivating a biological target, such as a virus, a toxin, or a therapeutic protein like a peptide hormone. In the context of hormonal or peptide therapies, the formation of NAbs against the administered drug can diminish or completely abolish its clinical efficacy by preventing it from reaching or activating its target receptor. Monitoring NAb development is essential for biotherapeutic safety and effectiveness evaluation.
