Neutralizing Antibody

Meaning

A Neutralizing Antibody is a specific type of antibody produced by the immune system that has the capacity to block or ‘neutralize’ the biological effect of its target antigen. This is achieved by binding directly to a critical functional site on the antigen, thereby preventing it from interacting with its cognate receptor on a cell. These antibodies are essential for immunity against pathogens and can also arise in response to therapeutic agents.
