Neurotoxicity

Meaning

Neurotoxicity is the inherent property of a chemical, biological, or physical agent to produce an adverse, damaging effect on the structure or function of the central and/or peripheral nervous system. This harmful impact can range from subtle biochemical changes that affect neurotransmission to irreversible structural damage, such such as neuronal cell death or demyelination of axons. Recognizing and mitigating neurotoxicity is paramount in hormonal health, as many endocrine disruptors and severe metabolic imbalances can indirectly compromise overall neuronal integrity.
