Neurosteroid Modulation

Meaning

Neurosteroid Modulation is the targeted adjustment of the concentration or activity of neurosteroids, which are steroid molecules synthesized de novo in the central and peripheral nervous systems from cholesterol or peripheral steroid precursors. These molecules act rapidly and locally on neurotransmitter receptors, distinct from the slower, genomic effects of classic steroids, profoundly influencing mood, cognition, sleep architecture, and the stress response. Clinical modulation aims to restore optimal brain function and emotional equilibrium by targeting these immediate neurochemical pathways.
