Neuronal Integrity

Meaning

Neuronal integrity refers to the structural soundness, functional efficiency, and overall health of individual neurons and the neural circuits they form within the central and peripheral nervous systems. This encompasses the maintenance of cellular components, including the axon, dendrites, and myelin sheath, as well as the capacity for effective neurotransmission and signal propagation. High integrity is essential for optimal cognitive function, motor control, and sensory processing throughout the lifespan. Declining neuronal integrity is a hallmark of neurodegenerative disorders and age-related cognitive decline.
