Neuronal Hypometabolism

Meaning

Neuronal Hypometabolism is a measurable, pathological state in which the energy utilization and metabolic rate of brain cells are significantly reduced below normal physiological levels. This is typically observed as decreased glucose uptake, which is the brain’s primary fuel source, within specific, functionally important regions of the central nervous system. It is a key clinical finding, often preceding the structural changes associated with neurodegenerative diseases and cognitive decline.
