Neurokinin B

Meaning

A neuropeptide belonging to the tachykinin family, which acts as a key signaling molecule in the central nervous system, particularly within the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus. It is a critical component of the KNDy (Kisspeptin, Neurokinin B, and Dynorphin) neuronal system, which plays an essential, permissive role in regulating the pulsatile release of GnRH (Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone). NKB is indispensable for normal reproductive function and the regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis.
