Neuroinflammatory Signaling

Meaning

Neuroinflammatory Signaling refers to the complex cascade of communication pathways within the central nervous system (CNS) that are activated in response to injury, infection, or chronic stress, involving the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and the activation of glial cells, such as microglia. While acute neuroinflammation is a necessary protective response, chronic or dysregulated signaling can disrupt neuronal function, impair neurogenesis, and profoundly alter the delicate balance of neurotransmitter and hormone production. This sustained inflammation is a key driver of many neuroendocrine disorders.
