Neuroinflammatory Conditions

Meaning

Neuroinflammatory conditions are pathological states within the central nervous system characterized by the chronic activation of microglia and astrocytes, leading to the sustained release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. This persistent, low-grade inflammation is distinct from acute infection and often results from chronic systemic stress, metabolic dysfunction, or hormonal imbalance, causing neuronal distress and synaptic dysfunction. Clinically, these conditions manifest as cognitive impairment, mood dysregulation, and a reduced capacity for neuroplasticity.
