Neuroinflammation and Lethargy

Meaning

Neuroinflammation and Lethargy describes the clinical link between chronic, low-grade inflammatory processes within the central nervous system (CNS) and the subjective experience of profound physical and mental exhaustion, apathy, or reduced motivation. Neuroinflammation involves the activation of glial cells, such as microglia, which release pro-inflammatory cytokines that directly interfere with crucial neurotransmitter synthesis and signaling pathways. This neurological process is a significant non-peripheral contributor to chronic fatigue states and compromised cognitive function.
