Neurogenesis Modulation

Meaning

The process of intentionally altering the rate of proliferation, migration, and survival of new neurons within the adult brain, primarily occurring in the subgranular zone of the hippocampus. This modulation is a key target for improving cognitive function, memory formation, and emotional resilience, as impaired neurogenesis is implicated in various neurodegenerative and mood disorders. The goal is to sustain a healthy rate of neuronal turnover.
