Neuroendocrine Neoplasms

Meaning

Neuroendocrine Neoplasms (NENs) are a diverse group of tumors arising from cells that possess characteristics of both nerve cells and hormone-producing endocrine cells. These tumors can occur throughout the body, most commonly in the gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, and lungs, and often secrete excessive amounts of hormones, leading to specific clinical syndromes. The spectrum of NENs ranges from indolent, slow-growing tumors to aggressive, high-grade carcinomas.
