Neuroendocrine Hierarchy

Meaning

The Neuroendocrine Hierarchy describes the structured, layered system of communication and control that governs the entire endocrine system, starting with the central nervous system. This cascade begins with the hypothalamus, which signals the pituitary gland, which in turn regulates peripheral endocrine glands like the thyroid, adrenals, and gonads. Understanding this hierarchy is essential for diagnosing and treating hormonal imbalances, as dysfunction at the highest level (the brain) will cascade downward to affect all subordinate glands.
