Neuro-Transmitters

Meaning

Neurotransmitters are endogenous chemical messengers that transmit signals across a chemical synapse, from one neuron (nerve cell) to another target cell, which can be another neuron, muscle cell, or gland cell. They are essential for all aspects of central and peripheral nervous system function, regulating mood, sleep, cognition, and motor control. The interplay between neurotransmitters and the endocrine system is fundamental, as many hormones modulate neurotransmitter synthesis and receptor activity.
