Neuro-Inflammatory Cascade

Meaning

The Neuro-Inflammatory Cascade is a complex, self-propagating sequence of biochemical events within the central nervous system initiated by a trigger, such as systemic infection, chronic stress, or traumatic brain injury. This cascade involves the activation of glial cells, primarily microglia and astrocytes, leading to the sustained release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines within the brain parenchyma. Chronic activation of this process is implicated in neurodegenerative conditions and cognitive-emotional dysregulation.
