Neuro-Endocrine Function

Meaning

The integrated activity of the nervous system and the endocrine system, representing the body’s two primary communication and control networks working in concert to regulate physiological processes. This function involves neurons producing and releasing hormones (neurohormones) that act on distant target cells, or the nervous system directly influencing endocrine gland secretion. Optimal neuro-endocrine function is essential for maintaining homeostasis, coordinating stress response, reproduction, growth, and metabolism throughout the lifespan.
