Neuro-Endocrine Axes

Meaning

The neuro-endocrine axes are a set of complex, interconnected physiological pathways that form the master regulatory system coordinating the central nervous system (CNS) with the endocrine glands to maintain systemic homeostasis and mediate the body’s response to stress. Key axes, such as the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis and the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) axis, utilize a cascade of neurohormones and circulating endocrine signals to communicate and control vital functions like metabolism, reproduction, and mood.
