Neural Timing Fidelity

Meaning

Neural Timing Fidelity refers to the precision and accuracy with which the neurons of the central nervous system, particularly those in the Suprachiasmatic Nucleus (SCN), generate and transmit rhythmic signals that govern the body’s circadian clock. High fidelity means the internal biological rhythm is stable, robust, and accurately synchronized to external time. This precision is essential for coordinating the downstream hormonal and physiological rhythms, ensuring that the body’s internal schedule is consistent. Diminished fidelity, often seen with aging or chronic stress, leads to a fragmented and less functional internal clock.
