Neural Fueling

Meaning

Neural fueling describes the continuous and precise delivery of metabolic substrates, primarily glucose and, secondarily, ketone bodies, to the neurons and glial cells of the central nervous system. This process is essential for maintaining the high energy demands of synaptic transmission, neuronal communication, and cognitive function. Optimal neural fueling requires tight glucose homeostasis and efficient transport mechanisms across the blood-brain barrier. Inadequate fueling is a direct contributor to brain fog and cognitive decline.
