Neural Energetic Requirements

Meaning

Neural Energetic Requirements define the exceptionally high and continuous metabolic demand necessary for optimal function of the central nervous system, particularly the brain. This requirement is predominantly met by glucose metabolism, but also includes a substantial need for essential fatty acids, oxygen, and micronutrients to support mitochondrial function and neurotransmission. Compromise of these requirements, often due to insulin resistance or mitochondrial dysfunction, leads to cognitive impairment and neurodegenerative risk.
