Neural Drive Potentiation

Meaning

Neural Drive Potentiation refers to the clinical and physiological process of increasing the magnitude and frequency of the efferent nerve signals transmitted from the central nervous system to the skeletal muscles. This enhanced drive results in the recruitment of a greater number of motor units and a higher firing rate of those units, leading to a more forceful and rapid muscle contraction. Potentiation of the neural drive is a primary mechanism for early and rapid strength gains in resistance training. It represents an upgrade in the brain-to-muscle communication pathway.
