Neural Arousal

Meaning

Neural Arousal is the physiological state of heightened responsiveness and vigilance in the central nervous system, characterized by increased cortical activity and an enhanced capacity to process sensory information. This state is mediated by a complex, integrated network of excitatory neurotransmitters and neuromodulatory hormones that maintain wakefulness and focus. While necessary for optimal performance, chronic or excessive neural arousal can lead to anxiety, sleep disturbances, and HPA axis dysregulation. Achieving a balanced, controlled arousal state is crucial for sustained cognitive function.
