Neonatal Fc Receptor

Meaning

The Neonatal Fc Receptor, commonly known as FcRn, is a major histocompatibility complex class I-related receptor protein that plays a critical role in regulating the half-life of immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies and albumin in circulation. It binds to the Fc portion of IgG and to albumin in a pH-dependent manner, protecting these vital proteins from degradation within cells. This mechanism ensures their prolonged presence and function within the body’s systems.
