Neoantigens

Meaning

Neoantigens are novel protein fragments, or peptides, that are generated by somatic mutations specific to tumor cells and are absent from normal, healthy tissues. These unique, non-self antigens are highly immunogenic and serve as critical targets for the body’s immune surveillance system. Their identification is a cornerstone of personalized cancer immunotherapy, including in hormone-driven malignancies like breast and prostate cancer.
